Marion A. Micchelli, 76, of Belleville, formerly of Newark, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2011 at Mountainside Hospital, Glen Ridge. The funeral will be conducted from the Biondi Funeral Home of Nutley, 540 Franklin Ave. on Friday, September 16 at 8:15 A.M. There will be a funeral mass celebrated at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Newark at 9:30 A.M. The interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 15 from 5-9 P.M.

Marion was born and raised in Newark before moving to Belleville in 1994. She graduated from Montclair State University in 1956 with a Teacherís Degree, and received her Masters in Mathematics in 1958 from Montclair State University. After that, she took a Fellowship at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY before going on to Advanced Studies in Mathematics at Seton Hall University in South Orange. Marion began teaching Mathematics at Kearny High School in 1957, and by the time she retired in 1992, she had become the Chairman of the Mathematics Department for Kearny High School.

Marion was a member of MENSA, and was also involved with Mt. Carmel Church, Newark, as a long time parishioner and a member of the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Society.

Marion is survived by her lifelong family friend, adopted daughter and sister and loving caregiver Barbara Newschwander; her caring brother Michael Micchelli and his wife Ann Marie; her beloved cousin Rosalie Safford; her 6 cherished nieces and nephews; and her 10 precious great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her many loving cousins and close friends.

Marion is predeceased by her parents Mildred (nee Cecere) and Nicholas Micchelli.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Judeís Childrenís Research Hospital, St. Jude Tribute Program, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis TN 38148, would be appreciated.
